utopYA Resolutions [14]: Jo Michaels Update!

The UtopYA Resolutions feature, hosted by Book Junkie: Not-So-Anonymous and The Paisley Reader will allow authors, bloggers, editors, cover models, designers, publicists, and any UtopYA attendee to share the resolutions they’ve made for the year between the 2014-2015 conferences.

Well, here I am again with an update for my utopYA 2015 Resolutions. I’d like to give a shout-out of thanks to Maria and Ashley for inviting me back as a guest for their series.

So, last time, I went into my publishing goals. Here are some updates:

Fractured Glass debuted to thunderous support and was ridiculously well received. It’s got wonderful reviews so far, and the ladies and I are planning to write something different for you all next year that we’ll be brainstorming at utopYA in June. There are already some ideas burning, we’ll just have to wait until we’re face-to-face to iron out the wrinkles. **Resolution=conquered and in progress.

Markaza is sitting at just over 20k words, and I’m working on it at every opportunity. My goal is to have it written by March 10th, 2015. **I’m on track with this goal.

M is at 15k words, and I’ll start on finishing that as soon as I’m done writing Markaza. My planned finish date is May 26th, 2015. **I’m on track with this goal.

In other news:

I have a huge announcement that’ll be shared at utopYA (not a moment sooner), and I was so tickled, I rode the high from the conversation for days afterward. My resolution from this offer and acceptance is to do the best job ever. **I’m on track with this goal.

Our guest editor from IBGW for utopYA 2015 has been chosen, but not announced to the team, and I can’t wait to hear her reaction when I tell her she’s coming to the con. **Resolution=owned.

IBGW has done something insane, and we’ll be revealing our awesome plan in June. People are gonna love it. We also give a huge nod to Indie-Visible! *grin* What an awesome group of ladies that is. This is all part of my resolution to grow IBGW’s visibility while still helping authors achieve the highest level of publishing success. Our marketing list (for books we’ve worked on and give away copies of) has exploded in growth, too. We’re excited to bring folks amazing Indie books. **Resolution=totally blown out of the water and in progress.

Being an official blogger has been so much fun. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to bring everyone amazing posts each week, full of games and information on the keynote speakers and panelists (and books!). I couldn’t have asked for better counterparts. Mad love for you ladies, Shana, Maria, and Ashley! **Goal=awesome. LOL!

My 2015 12 Days of Review Requests event was a huge success this year. I managed to bring together readers and authors for twelve days of unstoppable fun. Many words were purchased, and many reviews have been written by the review team I put together during the event (Maria and Ashley are two huge contributors). We had over 3k unique visits per day, and upward of 1k returning folks. Over 75 books were pitched, and I ended up buying 25 to read and review. Many visiting bloggers and book reviewers snagged books pitched by the authors, too. Some didn’t let us know they were around, but they’ve done a lot of reviewing since. I was thrilled to bring so many authors those badly needed reviewers, and to bring those reviewers awesome books. We gave away a ton of books, swag, and even a Kindle Fire HD7. It was epic. **Resolution=overachieved.

Through my author interview series, I’ve met a ton of new people I can’t wait to squee at and give tackle hugs to at the con this year. It’s going very well, though I’m not sure I’ll be able to continue the feature after June 2015. I’m trying to work out something there to keep it going, because I dearly love meeting everyone. Cross your fingers! **I’m trying, okay?

This year, I’m also gonna try to be more places. Because I’m bringing backup for the IBGW table, I’m hoping this will be an easier thing to accomplish. Please, if you see me (I’ll be the one in the cowboy hat), don’t be shy! Come on over and say hello! **Fingers crossed I can pull this off.
Thanks again for having me as a guest! I can’t say enough about how amazing it is to work with you ladies. I also can’t wait to see you both in June. Eep!

About the utopYAn:
Hi, I’m Jo. Let’s forget all the “Jo Michaels is blah, blah, blah” stuff and just go with it. I’m a voracious reader (often reading more than one book at a time), a writer, a book reviewer, a mom, a wife, and one of the EICs at INDIE Books Gone Wild. I have an almost photographic memory and tend to make people cringe at the number of details I can recall about them and/or their book(s). My imagination follows me around like a conjoined twin and causes me to space out pretty often or laugh out loud randomly in completely inappropriate situations.
I have a degree in graphic design, and my journey to the end was one few students who begin that program ever complete. However, this was one case where my memory and OCD tendencies helped me. Graduation was one of the most amazing days of my life. But, my most amazing day was when my now husband proposed. Every little girl dreams of being Cinderella someday, and he pulled off the proposal of fantasies.
At the risk of sounding cliche, I’m going to let it out there and say how much I absolutely adore the man I’m married to. Along with my children, he’s my whole world.
I’ve lived in Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia, but I’ve had my feet in almost every state. Traveling is something I adore, and have plans to someday see the Mongolia I’ve written about in Yassa.
One of my favorite things is hearing from fans! You can find me on social media most any day of the week. Connect! I’d love to hear from you.
